DEXTER: THE FINAL SEASON

THE DARK PASSENGER RISES!!!

There's just something about Dexter's character that I fell in like with 8 years ago. Maybe it's the fact I see so much of myself in him for reasons which cannot be disclosed and no I am not a serial killer however this past week I did consider putting a certain someone in a SAW trap which would be impossible for her to escape. I always did like the inverted bear trap. "DUECES B!@%H!*Inhales...Exhales* ...OK I'm calm now.

Could this be the end for Dexter?
Season 8 (the last ever season) began last Sunday and I couldn't wait for it to be back on my TV screen. Considering it returned much sooner than I had expected as Dexter normally premiers in Aumtum or as my fellow Americans like to call it...the Fall.  Dexter is back to his good old ways, the dark knight of Miami cleaning the streets of drug lords and murderers, trying to follow the code of his father who groomed his dark passenger and while trying to raise his son.

Is it me or has Harrison changed, to be honest the little boy who plays Dexter's son this season seems to be much better anyway as the last one always looked so disengaged, barely had any lines and always looked distracted by something happening off set as he from time to time would look directly into the camera lens.

Dexter and Deborah
So Deborah our favourite, (always drops an F-Bomb in every sentence) detective sister, is in a really bad place in her life after *SEASON 7 MAJOR SPOILER* finding out Dexter was actually the Bay Harbour Butcher  and killing lieutenant La Guerta after she managed to piece the clues together and accuse him of it.*END OF SPOILER* So now Deb is on drugs, proclaiming she is working a case and its all going wrong for her.

But now there's a new sheriff in town, a middle aged woman who joins the Miami Met, Dr. Evelyn Vogel. With long stares and wide glances at one another you can tell that this woman knows something about Dexter. Wondering how his life has been flipped, turned upside down Dexter is approached by Dr. Vogel who leaves an envelope with him and walks off. Dexter opens the envelope to discover drawings from a child illustrating death and a little boy separated from his family, to which we find out were his from when he was a child.

Dexter demands answers from Dr. Vogel
Dexter runs up to her grabs her by the throat demanding what she wants. She says to him...
"You cant kill me"
"Why"
"Because I don't fit Harry's code"

*DUM DUM DUUUUUUUUUUUUUM*
O.M.G if that's not a way to end the first episode of a season premiere then I don't know what is.

As per usual I won't be missing any of Dexter this season and I cannot wait to see what they have in store for us and considering this is the last ever season I guess all bets are off and anything can happen. I will be definately sad to see it go so I'm going to make the most of it while it's here.

DARK GIRLS

"I DON'T REALLY LIKE DARK SKINNED WOMEN BECAUSE THEY LOOK FUNNY BESIDE ME"

This just demonstrated the ignorance of people within black culture as one black male was asked his opinion on dark skinned girls.

Dark Girls a documentary showcasing the attitudes of people in how they think and act around dark skinned women, not only from other races but from within the black community. Making it's world television premier on OWN (Oprah Winfrey Network) Dark Girls was a moving and thought provoking documentary which often had me thinking and questioning our social attitudes into what we say without actually thinking of the impact it may have on people. While watching this I couldn't help but think if I had been experiencing deja vu. Had I seen this documentary before? I think I did however this version had been slightly upgraded.

Phrases which echoed throughout the documentary were ones I had heard myself through my own experiences, such as...
"She looks pretty for a dark skinned girl"
"I don't date dark skinned girls"
"Black girls are too aggressive"

Reflecting back on my days studying Sociology at college reminded me when you say something to someone long enough they will start to believe it themselves therefore creating a self fulfilling prophecy. What shocked me the most out of the documentary was the reactions from children. One child was shown a cartoon of 5 girls with different skin tones placed in order from lightest to darkest. She was asked which girl was the prettiest to which she answered the white girl. She was then asked which girl was the ugliest to which she answered the darkest girl. When asked her reasons for her decision she replied..."Because she is black"

Dark Girls was a documentary which really broke down the history of black people, discussing the concept of the brown paper bag test. If you were darker than the paper bag you were considered ugly, stupid and worthless. They also reflected on how black people are portrayed within the media, as they discussed the lightening of Beyonce's skin in the Lore'l ad campaign to how skin bleaching is becoming a normality in parts of Africa and the Western world. While also exploring how social media has provided people with an online veil to hide behind as they racially degrade each other.

This documentary is must see for everyone especially for black women. The underlying theme of learning to love yourself and accepting who you are found its light throughout the film and by the end of film it proclaimed that black women must rise. Rise above every circumstance and rise above every oppression.

DARK GIRLS WILL BE AVAILABLE ON DVD 24TH SEPTEMBER 2013

TRUE BLOOD: SEASON 6

VAMPIRES AND FAIRIES AND WOLVES OH MY!!!

The cast of TRUE BLOOD
Top: Lafayette, Tara, Jessica, Sookie & Sam /  Bottom: Jason, Bill & Eric
Yaaaay, True Blood is back. OK so I'm a little late rejoicing over its return being that it started 3 weeks ago and as you can tell there has been a little drought here with content as I have been extremely busy working stupid hours, that I have been just too tired to type or even find the time to watch anything. (Enough with the ranting)

So now I have so much free time on my hands, I can now catch up on all I have missed and blog to my hearts content. So season 6 kicks off right from we left off with Lilith possessing Bill's body and then he goes on this crazy rampage chasing Eric and Sookie through the building, while the rest of the gang Tara, Pam, Jason, Jessica and Nora fight off Vamps to try and escape.

*Fast Forward* They escape, reunite with each other, drive off, building blows up, looks through car back window....Bill naked covered in blood walks through fire. "Oh Sh*t lets keep driving"
Being that it was the first episode there were things happening but there wasn't anything that major, other than Jessica being horrifically summoned and Sam's shifter girlfriend (I forgot her name, shows you how much  valued her importance) dying. However they have begun to set up the Warlow story with Jason playing hitchhiker and being picked up by a lone driver who's kinda old and kinda creepy looking driving him home as they begin talking about life in Bon Temps. Which we later find out *Spoiler* yes you guessed it that kinda old kinda creepy man is indeed...WARLOW

To be honest I wasn't that impressed with last season and the whole Lilith story so I'm hoping they really bring it in season 6 and push the Warlow story. I hope this guy is a real bad ass just like how they made Russel Edgington in Season 3 (who I still feel should have won an award for his part) as he is "The true face of VAMPIRE!"

I will continue to invest an hour weekly into TRUE BLOOD and look forward to some epic moments with speedy Vampire fighting, stakes through hearts and it will be interesting to meet some new characters as well. It's good to have you back True Blood...WAITING SUCKS!!!

THE GOSSIP GAME

I AM NOT HERE FOR THIS SHOW!!!
Another reality show. This time it shows the lives about women in the world of Hip Hop. Bloggers, radio hosts, editors, and writers. Seriously who are these women? I only knew Angela Yee from Power 105.1 "The Breakfast Club". Unnecessary arguments and stupid meetings at clothing shops for dogs, just to gain viewers with a side of very poor vocabulary as it seems the only word every person on this show seems to use is "RATCHET."
"Ratchet This...Ratchet That...Ooooh She Ratchet!!!" -___-

I really have no care for any of these women and this show is pointless. I watched the premier episode last week and thought it was crap then but I thought let me give it another chance. To be honest I was bored and I saw it on so I thought let me kill some time. I should have just continued staring at the wall because I think I would have got more inspiration from that. I really have nothing positive to say about this show and I am pretty sure it will get cancelled after the first season.

If you like mind numbing pointless TV then you can catch "The Gossip Game" on VH1 and online somewhere if you can be bothered to look.

YOUNGERS

"SOUTH LONDON IS BACK ON THE MAP IN NEW E4 DRAMA"

New drama "YOUNGERS" is set to make it's television debut tonight on E4. First impressions of the advert...Kidulthood the TV series? However with a 7:30pm pre-watershed time slot I highly doubt it will be as dark and gritty with excessive violence, sex & foul language. *sigh*

CHECK OUT THE TRAILER FOR "YOUNGERS" HERE

The advert pretty much says it all to be honest. A kid trying to get out of the hood. Music is his passion. Struggles with identity. Love interest. Gets into trouble with a local ruffian and then probably makes it and lands a record deal or it could go very left and he ends up getting killed. But I'm not one to put down a show before I've seen it. I was granted an exclusive first preview by E4 as I was invited to an advance screening of the pilot episode. OK I lied, I just watched it on 4OD and you can watch it as well if you register.

So it ticked the majority of boxes of what I expected to see in a show like this. Two best friends, Yemi & Jay. "Pinky and the Brain" as I like to call them. One is a genius the others insane but they both have a passion for music. So Jay signs them up for a music competition called MicStar which Yemi is reluctant to enter as his traditional Nigerian mother disproves.  The episode featured appearances by YouTube celebrities "Mandem On The Wall" playing there usual role as being...mandem on the wall as the joke about living the YOLO (You Only Live Once) lifestyle and brags about getting in the Music Industry & the Pimping Industry. Yeah your typical "Wasteman" (A person who sits around doing nothing all day who has no ambition or plan in life) you usually see on road who are always "Getting Money"

A key moment I found funny was the scene where Jay shows the mandem on the wall his phone of a girl he is seeing but then of them switches to the next picture to reveal a half naked picture of Jay. He screams and complains that his eyes are burning.

It was a good first episode and definitely reaches it's audience of secondary school and college students. It has been a while since we have had something like this on screens. The last show we had that I can remember was "TOP BOY." I can see that this show wants to shed a more positive light showing that South London is not all about gang culture, drugs and merciless killings like how the media tends to portray it. So I hope it does well. Kudos to E4 for giving something like this the green light.

BATES MOTEL

"EVERY STORY HAS A BEGINNING & EVERY PSYCHO HAS A PAST"

The "Bates Motel". Ring any bells? Sound familiar? Probably not but to a true movie buff it should. The Bates Motel is one of the most famous motels in movie history, noted for it's appearance in the Alfred Hitchcock film..."PSYCHO" now do you see where I'm going with this. So I saw the trailer for this new show last night as I delved into my weekly showing of WWE's Monday Night Raw. (I know I'm too grown to still be watching Wrestling but the nostalgic moments here in there make it somewhat entertaining)

Murder, cover ups and a very familiar looking hotel. I won't lie at first I thought it was the house from the "Adams Family" but the stairs leading up to the house brought it all back to me. So I thought..."Why not?"  I'm not familiar with the original Hitchcock "Psycho" but I do remember glancing at the 1998 remake starring Vince Vaughn.

It seems like origin storylines are the new trend, with games such as Tomb Raider and God of War following suit. (Who doesn't like a good origin story) Bates Motel tells the story of Norman Bates before he became the famous "PSYCHO" killer and how they moved into the house and take over the Seafairer Motel and renamed it the Bates Motel.

We begin to realise quite quickly that Norman's mother seems to be quite the pro when it comes to killing and has a somewhat natural flair about it. I'm quite excited to see the character progression of Norman Bates and how he transforms. As the first episode already shows traits of this as Norman looks through an illustrated book of a girl being held captive and chained to a bathroom sink.

Now I love shows that can leave me with suspense and with this being an ode to the Master of Suspense Alfred Hitchcock I am hoping to get the most shocks and surprises. However combined with the makers of Lost. I'm hoping it won't be too suspenseful that I'm having to wait for 4 seasons before I get to know why something happened in episode 2 of season 1. I'm getting a "Dexter Morgan" vibe from this show and I hope it provides me with all the greatness that show brought.

PREACHER'S DAUGHTERS

"IT'S ALWAYS THE PASTOR'S DAUGHTER WHO IS THE WORST."

Left: Kolby     Middle: Olivia,     Right: Taylor
Last night a glass of Asda's finest wine in my left hand and a Magnum chocolate ice cream in my right. OK I'm lying it wasn't a Magnum it was a similar cheaper version from Aldi. Don't judge me it tasted the same. I came across this show which follows the lives of 3 Preacher's Daughters (hence the title)

"SEE NO EVIL, HEAR NO EVIL, SPEAK NO EVIL"
Now I don't know why I decided to watch this, maybe it's because I was bored and the 3 for £10 wine got to me a little. Well it felt at first like I was watching 16 and pregnant as it had that similar format of reality TV so I was about ready to switch off until I heard one of the girls tell her sister that she fantasised about being a porn star....HELLO!!!

I told you...
"It's always the pastor's daughter who is the worst"
Taylor wants to be porn star. Olivia doesn't know who her baby daddy is and Kolby just want's to date but her parents are strongly against it. Like any other reality show it seems like some of these scenes have been set up entirely for entertainment such as Taylor wanting to go to a waterpark and sneaks out in a skimpy bikini without her dad knowing. Like any "Good Girl" she has to have that stereotypical bad boyfriend who curses and smokes weed but she is truly madly deeply in love with him.

To be honest I don't see myself rushing home to watch it but i'm sure if I have my £3.33 recurring wine again I will likely browse over the next episode. But if your into shows like 16 & Pregnant then I'm sure you'll enjoy this. Check out the trailer for "PREACHER'S DAUGHTERS" below.
